For seven years, I worked in a corporate office in Gurgaon. Good salary. Comfortable life. Air-conditioned meetings and quarterly targets. From the outside, everything looked perfect.

But inside, I felt something was missing.

The Moment That Changed Everything

In 2023, during a short visit to Gorakhpur, I attended a small education camp run by People & Nature Welfare Society (PANWS). I saw children studying under a temporary tent, women learning stitching skills, and volunteers working late into the evening — not for salary, but for impact.

"That day, I realized success is not measured only by income — it is measured by impact."

— Amit Verma

When I returned to my office in Gurgaon, I couldn’t stop thinking about what I had seen. The contrast between corporate presentations and real community change was overwhelming.

The Internal Conflict

Leaving a stable job is never easy. I had responsibilities, EMIs, and family expectations. Questions flooded my mind:

  • What about financial security?
  • What will people say?
  • Am I making an emotional decision?
  • Will I regret this later?

For six months, I volunteered during weekends while continuing my job. Every Sunday spent in the field felt more meaningful than five days in the office.

The Leap of Faith

In July 2024, I submitted my resignation letter.

Friends were shocked. Some called it brave. Some called it foolish. But for the first time in years, I felt clarity.

Life as a Full-Time Volunteer

Today, my days begin not with emails but with village visits. I work on:

  • Education enrolment drives
  • Women skill development training
  • Health awareness camps
  • Fundraising and programme planning

The challenges are real — limited resources, unpredictable logistics, emotional stories — but the satisfaction is unmatched.

"Corporate work gave me comfort. Volunteering gave me purpose."

What I Learned

  1. Purpose matters more than position.
  2. Impact is more fulfilling than increments.
  3. Real change happens at the grassroots level.
  4. Success should include social responsibility.

Would I Recommend It?

Not everyone needs to quit their job to make a difference. But everyone can contribute — through volunteering, donations, mentoring, or simply spreading awareness.

For me, leaving corporate life was not a sacrifice. It was an upgrade — from comfort to contribution.
